Carillion team sails through Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) re-certification

Carillion, the UK’s leading support services and construction company, is celebrating the successful re-certification of its Business Services Supply Chain team to the tough standards of the CIPS.

The certificate was officially presented to the team by CIPS’ Ian Schollar at a recent conference in Oxford.

Mr Schollar, CIPS Governance & Audit Manager, commented: “Overall, Carillion Business Services (CBS) was found to have an extremely well-structured and well-documented set of purchasing policies and procedures with a high degree of organisational compliance.”

As he handed over the gold-framed certificate, he told the audience, which included CBS Supply Chain team members and Carillion senior management: “We have been so impressed with the enthusiasm of this team for your subject, in particular with the way that you share and report the information that you gather, and we look forward to keeping the existing relationship between CIPS and Carillion Business Services going, and being able to build on it.”

CIPS Certification is a dynamic standard and certified businesses are reviewed to ensure that all purchasing and supply management policies and procedures are not only up-to-date, but also working effectively throughout the organisation. Carillion first achieved certification in 2007 and this latest successful re-certification audit comes as Carillion Business Services continues to broaden its scope and further strengthen its Supply Chain capability.

Rob Alexander, Carillion Business Services’ Supply Chain Director, explained the significance of the award, not only to his team, but to Carillion Business Services overall: “In order to maintain our position as a UK leader in total facilities management, it’s vital that our customers, and our potential customer base, are in no doubt that they can trust us to bring them the best of what the market has to offer, packaged in the best possible way to meet their needs.

“We strongly believe that in Supply Chain the best way to demonstrate that we are doing this is through independent endorsement of our skills and processes by a respected professional body such as CIPS.

Carillion Business Services is one of only 86 companies in the UK and abroad to hold the CIPS certification.

CIPS Certification is the recognised global accreditation for achieving procurement excellence through an organisation’s procurement and supply chain policies, procedures and strategies. It is valid for a period of 4 years but quality controlled by annual audits. While notoriously difficult to achieve, many organisations worldwide are implementing the CIPS Certification programme to improve processes within the supply chain. This ultimately leads to significant improvements in the bottom line.
